The Finnish Labour Museum (Werstas) and the African Presence in Finland research project (TaY) are organizing an exhibition on the African diaspora in Finland in 2015, in collaboration with various partners. A central part of the exhibition project is the collection of important materials and documents (audio, visual, textual, and others) to be archived by the Finnish Labour Museum (Werstas) as part of re-writing the present social history of the African presence in Finland, for future generations.
This is an open invitation to sports clubs organizer (football, basketball, cricket, etc), scholars on sports and integration related issues, as well as partner organizations to The African Presence in Finland Exhibition’s workshop on sports. The workshop will focus on the people of African descent’s contributions to sports in Finland, as well as the role of sport to the everyday life.
The workshop will create an open-dialogue environment to allow various partners and participants to share their views about the exhibition and to discuss amongst others:
- How best to show-case the sporting contributions of people of African descent to Finnish sports?
- What materials and documents on sports should be show-cased at the exhibition and also for subsequent archiving?
- How may the exhibition on sports be used to produce positive models for children and young people of African descent in Finland, for example on the issue of racism?
The workshop will be conducted in English and Finnish and is free of charge to all participants. Registration latest April 14th, by 12 pm. When you register, please give the following information: name, organization/institution/other, your interests/activities related to sports and the African diaspora. Those who have registered, will be sent a detailed programme.
