PT: Workshop Understanding and modeling the migration decision making process under a changing climate
(Communication - International - English)
Begin15/03/2014 - 00:00
End15/03/2014 - 00:00
Venue University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal
Organiser Thomas Panagopoulos and others
The aim of this workshop is to develop our understanding of the migration decision making process under varied socio-economic, demographic, political and environmental contexts and through this to assess the sensitivity of model future migration patterns to changes in the climate. In particular it intends to cover the following questions:
How do we conceptualize and model migration decision-making in multi-stressor environments and under changing conditions?
How can we monitor, map and predict ‘trapped’ populations?
How can the importance of individual human agency and local contexts be included when designing global approaches and models to producing scenarios of future migration?
Participants are asked to prepare short presentations on these questions, which will then be further discussed during the workshop. Group discussions will be focused on these and other methodological challenges related to research into the climate change-migration nexus.
The aim of these discussions is that by the end of the meeting we have mapped out a joint paper on “Understanding and modeling the migration decision-making process under a changing climate”. This paper will then be elaborated after the workshop to be presented for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
