Art Market Budapest strives to provide unique and fresh, cutting edge content to its audience every year. Alongside other elements, this purpose is served by its special program, built around a highlighted topic that is socially topical and artistically relevant. MIGRATION is the main theme in 2013 at Art Market Budapest; more specifically, the program focuses on the artistic representations of, and reflections upon, the phenomenon of migration. Its central manifestation is a curated show, involving predominantly those artists whose representatives are among the exhibitors of the fair. The name of the program and the show was inspired by the title of one of the selected artworks.

The LA GRAND MIGRATION exhibition and related programs explore the topic from the perspective and interpretation of the most sensitive viewer (and often participant): the artist. Some of the artists represented in the curated program reflect on specific situations and problems, while others explore the subject and its effects from a philosophical distance. Although the compilation of the international artists ranges through many countries, from Afghanistan to Kenya, within this intercontinental topic, there is a particularly strong reflection on issues of migration present within Europe, such as the trauma of forced change, the search for employment, xenophobia and racism, and the phenomenon of dating and marriage that is not necessarily based on love.
