The European Union is currently facing a strong dilemma in the management of diversity. Some states have chosen to further develop diversity policies, while others have preferred to advance the implementation of assimilation policies. Meanwhile, the European institutions are trying to set the strategic lies that Member States should follow. During this session we will try to review different ways of managing diversity, raise the pros and cons of one model over another and try to frame the Spanish approach, which is so hard to define and classify within the EU.

Ricard Zapata-Barrero, from the Department of Political and Social Science at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Interdisciplinari Research Group in Immigration (GRITIM-UPF) and Anna Terron Cusi, ex-Secretary of State of Immigration and Emigration and special adviser to the Commissioner Cecilia Malmström on migration, will discuss with the public on the current state of diversity in the EU and the policies that are being implemented in both the European institutions and in the member states.
