De tout temps, la dynamique de développement des villes s'est caractérisée par l'intensité des échanges culturels qui les ont traversées. Plus particulièrement, et depuis une trentaine d’années, le thème de la diversité culturelle a pris une dimension de première importance dans les débats internationaux, nationaux comme dans les préoccupations locales. Quant à la problématique interculturelle – qui met l’accent sur la mise en relation dynamique des différentes formes d’expressions culturelles en présence –, elle est devenue un sujet central de nos sociétés, notamment au sein des villes et métropoles contemporaines. 

Strasbourg, ville carrefour, capitale européenne, s’interroge, tout comme d’autres espaces urbains et ruraux en France et en Europe. Comment concilier aujourd’hui citoyenneté, unité, diversité et justice sociale dans un espace démocratique ? Comment imaginer une politique interculturelle qui cherche à capitaliser les savoir-faire, les expériences des populations et vise à construire l’unité de la cité à travers une meilleure prise en compte de sa diversité et une stimulation des échanges interculturels ? Comment construire de manière durable une cité de la relation en phase avec son histoire, son époque et les mutations du monde contemporain ? 

Durant deux journées, des séances plénières et ateliers en groupes restreints seront proposés pour interroger les pratiques et les enjeux de l’interculturalité notamment au cœur des villes et des métropoles contemporaines. Cherchant à articuler réflexion, expériences de terrain et action publique, avec le souci d'être dans une approche ouverte à plusieurs champs professionnels, la rencontre réunira des chercheurs (philosophes, sociologues, politologues), des décideurs publics, des acteurs de terrain, au plan local, national et international.
