The cultural exchange between the Netherlands and its former overseas territories, currently Indonesia, produced a rich material culture. The preserved structures are important for the history of architecture because they demonstrate a special blend of western and eastern styles, and have an important educational function as they recall both positive and negative aspects of the colonial period.
The symposium is open to both architecture and heritage professionals, as well as students and others interested in former Indian heritage. After a full day event, the day will conclude with a panel discussion on the future of shared heritage.
