The Week of Migrants’ Rights, organized on occasion of the International Migrants Day, is supposed to shift common understanding of giving and taking in relation to migrants. A series of public debates, film screenings, exhibitions and excursions will take place in Prague, Brno and Pardubice.

Migrants are often considered as those who give or take something from 'us'.  It is hard for migrants to escape the judgment whether they are or are not useful. Migrants take their rights and therewith give 'us' something – a better democracy. In this democratic practice, the rights and privileges are newly distributed and the society we live in is newly defined. 

The Week of Migrants’ Rights should primarily support the Campaign for Health Insurance for Migrants seeking to integrate migrants from third countries into the public health insurance scheme. 

The organizers also want to warn of the danger of abolishment or dilution of the human rights section at the Office of Government which already has a very weak position.  This could also mean the end of the Committee for the Migrants’ Rights operating by the Government Council for Human Rights or its transfer under the Ministry of Interior and therefore decreasing its independence.
