In the Netherlands the discussion about officials wearing religious symbols has just recently taken place. That this one is not, like in France, an older discussion is due partly to the fact that in the Netherlands it is more often related to headscarfs and Muslim religious symbols. But state Neutrality does not necessarily require that judges and other officials do not wear religious symbols. This are the conclusions of Hana Ooijen in her doctoral research 'Religious symbols in public functions: Unveiling state neutrality. A Comparative Analysis of Dutch, English and French justifications for limiting the freedom of public officials to display religious symbols. 'I studied judiciary, police and officials in public education' says Ooijen. The promotion of Hana Ooijen takes place on 23 November 2012 at the University of Utrecht.
