Yunus Emre is an oratorio based on poetry of thirteenth-century poet and Sufi mystic with the same name; Yunus Emre. He was one of the first who wrote poetry in Turkish vernacular and is an icon of the Turkish culture. Divine love and human destiny are the central themes in the work of Yunus Emre. This now very popular work in Turkey exudes kindness and tolerance. The chorus 'Hoofdstadkoor' is working with the Turkey Now! Festival to celebrate 400 years of trade relations between the Netherlands and Turkey.
