The goal of this article is to shed light on the key features of the Turkish community in Poland, the process of its emergence, the major characteristics, as well as its integration with the host society and mutual perceptions. The Turkish community bears many features of a diaspora understood as a group based on a degree of national, or cultural, or linguistic awareness of a relationship, territorially discontinuous, with a group settled elsewhere (Marienstras, 1989) and only its relatively short migratory history, and the fact that only a small number of people who engage in transnational practices, might refrain some observers from viewing it in such a way. The major part of the empirical data on which this paper is based was gathered between 2012 and 2013 within the research project on the perception of Turkey in Visegrad Countries (Pędziwiatr, 2013) and during the ongoing project on the migration change and new immigrant communities in Poland.
