The Swedish National Audit Office has made a review of the Swedish Governments introduction activities for asylum seekers. The purpose of the review has been to examine whether the introduction activities offered to asylum seekers are effective in terms of facilitating their integration in Sweden.
The review shows that between the two national authorities that are responsible for asylum seekers housing and the possibilities to start working or training for work the demands for flexibility and co-operation is high. The review also shows that information and language introduction needs to be suited after the needs of the asylum seekers and their period of residence.
The Swedish National Audit Office recommends a follow up by the government concerning asylum seekers equal access to information and those asylum seekers, who do not work or train for work during the time in the reception system, are given possibilities to make contacts and in other ways be integrated in the society. The aim should be to create an efficient labour market establishment for asylum seekers who are granted residence permit. Further, the Swedish Migration Board should facilitate for more asylum seekers to train for work or to work and to improve the social aspects of the reception of asylum seekers.
