Abstract (EN)

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to integration of migrants through raising the awareness of their rights and obligations and improving measures to prevent discrimination and exploitation of migrants in the Polish labour market. In the frames of the project IOM launched a special infoline serving as a source of reliable information on migrants’ rights and obligations in Poland and providing advice and referrals in case of abuse or violation of their rights. The infoline consultant speaks Polish, English, Ukrainian and Russian, which enables immediate assistance to a large group of beneficiaries. It is also possible to receive consultations in other languages via a conference call with the interpreters.

Angelegenheit/Herausforderung und
Ziele/Annahmen

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the integration of migrants through raising their awareness on their rights and obligations and improving measures to prevent discrimination and exploitation of migrants in the Polish labour market. In the frames of the project IOM launched a special infoline serving as a source of reliable information on migrants’ rights and obligations in Poland and providing advice and referrals in case of abuse or violation of their rights.

Wie funktioniert das?

The infoline consultant speaks Polish, English, Ukrainian and Russian, which enables immediate assistance to a large group of beneficiaries. The infoline is conducted in collaboration with language consultants (translators and interpreters) so as to enable effective communication with as many people as possible in their native languages. Information on migrants’ rights and obligations can also be found on the website www.migrant.info.pl, which is regularly updated in several languages. Currently the website is available in Polish, English, French, Russian, Ukrainian, Armenian, Vietnamese and Chinese. Migrants can also receive consultations via e-mail or Skype.

Ergebnisse

The project activities result in: better understanding and awareness of migrants’ rights and obligations in Poland among migrants themselves, as well as an increase in the efficiency of antidiscrimination policies and measures to prevent migrants’ exploitation in the Polish labour market. Until the end of May 2013 more than 1,200 people have made consultations over the infoline in Poland and ca. 550 beneficiaries over the infolines in Ukraine, Belarus and Armenia. The website has been visited more than 100,000 times. The hitherto activities have been positively evaluated by the beneficiaries.

Evaluierung

The project activities are evaluated via questionnaires available to beneficiaries on-line at www.migrant.info.pl and during meetings. Statistical data and sources of visits keep us abreast of which promotional activities are the most effective. The number of consultations and web page visits is constantly increasing. The biggest challenge of the project is reaching the target group, especially the hermetic communities of Vietnamese and Chinese migrants. These are best reached through mediators from these groups and via personal contact. A good way to promote the infoline and the website is through outreach activities and by individual contact. Subsequently the migrants themselves spread the word about the infoline among their families and friends.

Wer profitiert?

The project activities are mainly addressed to third-country nationals legally residing in Poland. It is expected that more than 30,000 people from the target group will benefit from the project.

Finanzierungsart
und benötigte Ressourcen

The project is implemented by IOM and is co-funded by the European Fund for the Integration of Third-country Nationals and the Ministry of Interior. The project is run by IOM Warsaw Office and involves the work of 4 full-time employees supported by administrative and financial staff and supervised by the Head of Office. The project staff includes: project coordinator, infoline consultant, promotion and information assistant and training assistant. The infoline consultant speaks Polish, English, Ukrainian and Russian, which enables immediate assistance to a large group of beneficiaries. It is also possible to receive consultations in other languages via a conference call with the interpreters.
