Abstract (EN)

The main objective of the course is to increase language competence of foreigners, to familiarize them with the Polish culture, institutions, law and history, and, in this way, to facilitate effective functioning in Poland and integration with the Polish society. An additional important part of the course - introduced as a result of the evaluation survey conducted among immigrants - is Polish langauge courses with elements of business language (vocational orientation for migrants), which helps them to better function in the work environment.

Polish language lessons are carried out by English, Russian and French language instructors in the seat of the Foreign Language Teaching Foundation Linguae Mundi and on-line (e-learning). The course prepares students for the state certificate examinations. A certificate in Polish as a foreign language issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language is necessary to obtain Polish nationality.

Angelegenheit/Herausforderung und
Ziele/Annahmen

The aims of the project are as follows:

  • Improve language competence to effectively function in Poland and to improve integration within Polish society, as well as obtaining an objective confirmation of the level of language proficiency by taking a state exam and getting a certificate in Polish as a foreign language;
  • Familiarizing students with the Polish culture and Polish reality (law, institutions etc.) which facilitates effective communication, getting a job, contacts with public institutions and social inclusion;
  • Preparing immigrants for education, self-education and acquiring new skills, familiarizing them with a modern educational tool in the form of e-learning which will extend the possibility of using various forms of support with an educational process;
  • Including elements of specialist (business) language in the course programme which will allow for better functioning in the work environment, more effective cooperation and will increase motivation to find work;
  • Creating a support group for course participants, creating a friendly
    environment, organizing events facilitating contacts between foreigners and Poles, intercultural dialogue, mutual enrichment and breaking cultural barriers and differences;
  • Increasing the attractiveness of foreigners in the labour market in the eyes of employers due to the language qualifications documented by state language certificates.

Wie funktioniert das?

The course programme covers the following elements:

  • General Polish language lessons (8 months, 4 hours a week) conducted by English, Russian and French language instructors
  • Free of charge language consultations
  • Lectures on knowledge about Poland (Polish history, law and culture)
  • Cultural workshops, Movie evenings, Evenings of Nations, trips
  • Access to educational materials on the e-learning platform, activities on-line
  • Possibility of obtaining a state certificate in Polish as a foreign language, necessary to obtain Polish citizenship,
  • Additionally: Polish language course with elements of business language - on-line (participants of the course receive scripts supporting learning Polish with elements of business language)

Ergebnisse

Results: 3 600 students from 63 countries, 40,000 hours of instruction completed.

A large proportion of foreigners taking part in the courses pass the Certificate Examination organized by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language and receive state documents confirming the proficiency in the Polish language

Evaluierung

Forms of evaluation:

  • Evaluation surveys conducted among students
  • Evaluation surveys conducted among teachers
  • Results of language tests, including state certificate examinations in Polish as a foreign language

Usually the results of the evaluation surveys are very positive. One of the changes introduced as a result of evaluation was the introduction of a new component to the course programme: a vocational orientation for migrants.

Wer profitiert?

The beneficiaries of the project will be:

  • Third country nationals, project participants
  • Polish society, employers hiring foreigners, officials serving foreigners
