Abstract (EN)
The project seeks to promote coexistence between migrants and the native population by encouraging a process of social transformation towards multiculturalism being built up from below: from spaces that are unique to both communities and from new areas where both populations can meet together and coexist. From this project, dialogue spaces are promoted to work and actively participate in the construction of intercultural community life shared by both populations, finding common cross-cutting issues. The collaboration with associations and organizations which work with migrants and host population was essential, since these areas of involvement are key to coexistence and to the construction of a multicultural society. The training consisted of areas of critical reflection and knowledge about common issues to migrant and host population: migration project and grief work, cross-cultural couples, "borderless laughter therapy" workshops, "harmonizing cultures" music therapy workshop, workshop of "Biodanza for life", "self-esteem and motivation" and "self-esteem in difficult times" workshops, school parents with teenagers, and workshop on labour insertion, among others.
Angelegenheit/Herausforderung und Ziele/Annahmen
Objective 1. To involve both migrant and host population associations and organizations in the socio-community intervention process for coexistence and creation of an intercultural society.
Objective 2. Understand the needs, potentialities and proposals of both migrants and native population of the Community of Madrid regarding intercultural coexistence.
Objective 3. To promote the integration of migrants through training workshops whose contents have been detected as a need by migrants.
Objective 4. To foster coexistence between migrants and the host population as well as the creation of actions aimed at building an intercultural society.
Wie funktioniert das?
The diagnoses workshops were conducted with the Communitarian Intervention Methodology of the Community Corrective Processes (ProCC), which is based on the identification of daily life discomforts, in this case, regarding the integration between immigrants and natives. Once indicators were collected, they were categorized and taken as a reference for the following intervention workshops. Questionnaires were conducted in all the workshops in order to assess the activity, its application, and the extent to which the workshop has encouraged integration between immigrants and natives. These questionnaires were systematized to adapt other activities. Weekly meetings were held to coordinate and supervise activities.
Ergebnisse
The project was disseminated to more than 40 entities through mailing. In addition the project was directly presented in 7 entities.
Migrants and natives belonging to at least 5 entities or associations in Madrid Centre or Arganzuela were actively involved in the identification of needs and proposals needed to build intercultural coexistence. Realization of five participatory diagnoses.
11 workshops addressed to migrants belonging to immigrant organizations and associations were held to enable improvement in psychosocial adaptation and the creation of new networks of mutual support among the migrant population. The participatory diagnosis pointed out the need to develop Migratory Grief and Transcultural Couples. According to needs and demands, immigrant women's self-esteem, social skills in the process of adaptation to the society of origin and the labour insertion of immigrants were also approached.
Intercultural coexistence and participatory work spaces with common themes to both populations were created: "Laughter Therapy Without Borders," "Self-esteem and motivation", "Get active in the job search", "Harmonizing cultures" (music therapy workshop), "School of parents with teenagers "," Bio Dance for Life "," Love that builds, love that destroys, who sets the limit? "
A Photography exhibition: "How I see multiculturalism in my neighbourhood?" was also organised as well as a project closure meeting which included laughter therapy, music therapy and Bio Dance activities.
Evaluierung
The objectives were fully met and several activities that promote integration between migrants and the native have been held. At first it was pointed out that the workshops were going to be held every two weeks, during several sessions. However, it became difficult to keep groups for several sessions, due to the variability of the schedules of the participants among other reasons. This is the reason why the organisers chose to do some workshops of one, two or three sessions and increase the number of workshops offered. However, activities were also kept for longer periods such as "Self-Esteem and Motivation". The overall assessment of the participants has been highly positive, as a meeting, understanding and networking space.
