The role of school in the integration of immigrants will be debated in a meeting closing the project “I am like you” sponsored by the Jesuit Refugee Service. The project involved 30 schools in the municipality of Lisbon covering 907 students ranging from the 8th to the 11th grade, 22% of them of foreign origin. The project stimulated the dialogue between cultures and identities and the enhancement of respect and cooperation among peers from diverse origins, in the classroom.
The High Commissioner for Immigration and intercultural Dialogue, Ms. Rosário Farmhouse, the director of the Jesuit Refugee Service, Mr. André Costa Jorge, the Subdirector of the General Directorate of Education, Mr. Luís Filipe Santos, the immigrant actress Natasha Marjanovic, and the intercultural project team members will participate in the event.
The catalogue “I am like you – new youngsters from Lisbon” including a small selection of the 8700 photographs taken by the students will be presented. The motto of the photographs was “The difference which is not synonym of distance”. This free-entrance event will take place on 15th July in the auditorium of Secondary School Luís de Camões in Lisbon.
