Towards a Strategic European Experimental Infrastructure

Towards a Strategic European Experimental Infrastructure

In the context of Future Internet Research and Experimentation (FIRE), we have built a number of experimental facilities over time; some are operational and evolving, others are fading away. In WP2016-17 what additional facilities (up to 3) would you identify as strategic for building a European experimental infrastrucutre, by order of priority? Please, provide a title or a short description for each.

Next steps in federation

Next steps in federation

The need has been identified to allow for more flexible participation in the facilities, allowing for the temporary connection of external experimental resources. How critical do you think are the following as next steps in federation?

The need has been identified to allow for more flexible participation in the facilities, allowing for the temporary connection of external experimental resources. How critical do you think are the following as next steps in federation?

Ad hoc, intermittent availability of testbeds - the possibility to integrate / federate existing testbeds into experimental facilities without the commitment to be always available.

Simplifying and Expediting Experimentation

Similarly, there is a clear requirement for more flexible, efficient use of the facilities, supporting and guiding external experimenters and reducing the time-to-experiment. How critical do you think are the following for simplifying and expediting experimentation?

Support to Standardisation
Support to Standardisation
The potential of Experimental Facilities towards Standardisation needs to be better exploited. Please elaborate on whether and how FIRE facilities could be de facto, neutral benchmarks for technology testing and validation in support of Standardisation.

Current FIRE facilities federate experimental resources built and paid for by project partners, mostly with public funding. Please elaborate on the possible sustainability models in view of supporting public and private, institutional, regional and National resources, with different funding mechanisms.*
