Perhaps you do not associate statistics with cutting-edge innovation?  Let us open your eyes.

The international biennial scientific conference series "New Techniques and Technologies for Statistics (NTTS)", organised by Eurostat, showcases new techniques and methods for official statistics. It shows how new technologies impact statistical collection, production and dissemination systems.

The NTTS 2017 conference will take place from 14 to 16 March 2017 in Brussels, with the motto "Increasing data relevance for all".  Keynote speakers include outstanding international experts and academics such as Professor Sandy Pentland from MIT, Ron Jarmin from US Bureau of Census and Bo Sundgren from Dalarna University as well as the acting Director-General of Eurostat, Mariana Kotzeva.

A highlight will be the evening of the 15 March, when Commissioner Marianne Thyssen presents the awards to the winning teams of the EU Big Data Hackathon. This is the first ever official statistics hackathon at European level. Following the awards, the winning teams will present their solutions, developed in the space of just two days. We will present the winners to you later in March.

Before the conference, two satellite events on measuring migration and inclusive growth will take place on Monday, 13 March.  Two further events on challenges in measuring productivity, growth and intangibles as well as multi-indicator systems will take place on Friday, 17 March.
