The United Nations' sustainable development goal 12 “Responsible consumption and production” envisions to use resources efficiently, reduce global food and other waste, dispose safely toxic waste and pollutants. In a European Union context, the focus is on progress made in decoupling environmental impacts from economic growth, in decreasing its energy consumption and in tackling waste generation and management.
