With the publication Living Conditions in Greece, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) provides to users significant statistical data reflecting living conditions in Greece, concentrated in one publication.
The publication includes data concerning a wide range of factors (labour, health, education, technology, population, justice, tourism, culture, environment) that affect living conditions, as well as data on the quality of life, such as poverty and social exclusion.
This publication presents statistical time series compiled mainly by ELSTAT, but also comparative tables with other European Union countries on selected social indicators.
Commissioner Marianne Thyssen said yesterday that the Greek statistics office ELSTAT did not manipulate data on the country's debt in 2010-2015 and called on the Greek government to defend the credibility of the Greek economic statistics.
She said: "The independence of the Hellenic Statistical Authority ELSTAT and the quality of its statistics are essential. For the Commission and Eurostat, it is absolutely clear that data on Greek Government debt during 2010-2015 have been fully reliable and accurately reported to Eurostat."
Ms Thyssen called upon the Greek authorities to challenge the false impression that data were manipulated during 2010-2015 and to protect ELSTAT and its staff from such claims.
A letter signed by Vice-President Dombrovskis, Commissioner Moscovici and Commissioner Thyssen was sent in this regard to Greek Minister of Finance Euclid Tsakalotos.
The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) through the quarterly publication Greece in figures, published in both the Greek and English languages, presents statistical data providing an updated demographic, social and economic picture of Greece in a clear and comprehensive manner.
The publication Greece in figures is intended for users of statistics who seek to have a comprehensive view of Greece, on the basis of the most recent statistical data. The statistical time series included in this publication are, mostly, compiled by ELSTAT. Furthermore, for comparability reasons, the publication also presents, by theme, selected tables with statistical data of EU Member States.
The publication will be updated with the most recent data on a quarterly basis and will be posted on the portal of ELSTAT on the first Wednesday of January, April, July and October.
On January 2016, Dr. Athanasios C. Thanopoulos was officially appointed President of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) by virtue of the Decision of the Minister of Finance and following an international selection procedure conducted by an ad hoc international Committee of Experts.
