Institute of Statistics Albania hosted this year the Policy Group on Statistical Cooperation held in Durres Albania, during 19th – 20th of October.
As every year the Directors General and International Officers from the NSIs of the enlargement countries met to discuss strategic issues related to statistics in the context of the enlargement process. DG NEAR provided an overview on the Stabilization and Association Process in enlargement countries. Other important topics discussed and shared were Peer reviews and monitoring, Commitments on Confidence Sustainable Development Goals, The Code of Practice and Coordination of the National Statistical Systems, Developments in the ESS etc.
“Don’t make assumptions, use statistics” INSTAT in cooperation with the Municipality of Tirana and the Ministry of Finance organized an activity on the European Statistics Day.
The European Statistics Day is an opportunity to raise public awareness of the importance of official statistics as a public good. This day will aim at exchanging experiences with the general public, policymakers, businesses, research community, media and citizens on the use of official statistics.
Statistics on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Albania for the year 2015, state that:
SMEs comprise 99.9 % of active enterprises. The sectors with the highest and lowest number of enterprises in SMEs are the same as those of employment.
SMEs comprise 81.3 % of total number of employed. Three are the sectors that engaged over 50 % of employed in small and medium enterprises.
SMEs realized 77.6 % of turnover. Trade sector prevails in the percentage of total turnover realized by small and medium enterprises with 44.3 %.
SMEs invested 66.5 % of total investments realized during the year. Despite other indicators, the sector with the highest percentage realized in small and medium enterprises is electricity, water and waste management sector by 21.1 %.
SMEs realize 66.3 % of value added. Trade sector occupies the highest percentage of value added realized by small and medium enterprises with 22.2 %, followed by other services with 11.5 %, construction with 10.1 % and manufacturing industry with 10.0 %.
INSTAT Albania released a monthly statistical information on transport providing an overview of the progress of freights and passengers by air, maritime and land transporting (represented by rail transports).
In January 2017, the volume of freight loading /unloading in ports is 218 thousand / tonnes. Compared with January 2016, this indicator decreased by 10.3%. In the port of Durres are loadeding /unloading 97.7% of the quantity of freights loading / unloaded in all ports.
