Summary

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) provides the official measure of consumer price inflation in the euro area and the EU. The purpose of this manual is to provide information on the HICP methodology. With the help of definitions, examples and systematic legislative references, the manual is meant to serve as a practical reference document for National Statistical Authorities involved in the compilation of the HICP or for those aiming to set up a similar inflation measure. Other users may also find this manual useful to help them understand and interpret HICP data.
