Europe Day

Europe Day celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historic 'Schuman declaration'. At a speech in Paris in 1950, the French foreign minister, Robert Schuman, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe's nations unthinkable. On this occasion, Eurostat publishes an infographic about the European Union (EU28) and its inhabitants imagining what the EU28 would be like if it had just 100 inhabitants, instead of 506.8 million.
