Between 7 and 10 March, Eurostat attended the 48th annual session of the United Nations Statistical Commission.

This year's programme included important topics, such as the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, big data for official statistics, integration of statistics and geospatial information, social statistics, national accounts, business registers and quality assurance. Eurostat played an important role in coordinating the positions of EU countries on the first three items mentioned above.

Apart from taking part in the plenary meeting, Eurostat also participated in two side events devoted to globalisation and refugee statistics. Progress made in relation to the development of the UN recommendations on refugee statistics was particularly appreciated by other participants. Eurostat plays a leading role in this field, together with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and Statistics Norway.
