11.2.1 Main strengths

- The data is comparable from 2010 and onwards
- The data is very sought after by the media, organisations, Balance of Payments etc., and therefore holds a significant relevance in regards the overall developments in Denmark
- The indicators are useful in analysing the developing travel patterns, especially in the different age groups
- The survey has great potential

11.2.2 Main weaknesses

- The survey has undergone a lot of changes the last decade and is therefore not comparable before 2010 and onwards due to changes in the questionnaire, reference period and sample size
- New challenges regarding our conventional data collection method via CATI has over the recent years been challenged due to the shift in telephone habits. Consequently, we have in 2013 made a dual data collection with CATI combined with web survey in order to a get a more diversified and valid sample
- There has been a change in our grossing-up procedures, and this has forced an overall change in our production system

Users such as students, tourism organisations and journalists have asked for a more detailed publication, and we still need to publish all the tables from our paper publication on to our StatBank and website. Furthermore, the users have asked for more absolute numbers instead of percentages, but due to the current data deficiencies we have chosen to publish the majority of the tables as percentages.

13.1. Accuracy - overall

The survey is reliable and valid when using the accumulated values. However, the strength of the survey is rather volatile when broken down into categories such as destinations. As a consequence we only publish the percentages in such categories and leave out the absolute numbers. The sample size has been improved since we implemented the use of web survey alongside our traditional CATI, but the survey suffers from a sample size that is almost too small. The survey is accurate when dealing with stratification and grossing-up - the main issue is the sample size which we are adjusting.

We have implemented a dual data collection method in 2013 with CATI and web survey. 18.4. Data validation

The interviewers validate the data when speaking to the respondents. We are working on implementing a micro-validation tool for the raw data. Currently, the data gets validated manually and in the process of grossing-up as well. We need to implement the micro-validation in 2015.

18.5.1 Data compilation

The data is edited if numeric errors such as missing-values occur in the wrong variables. We only ask for the last 5 trips, so some observations are duplicated during the grossing-up procedure. If answers are missing we impute the values in the grossing-up procedure. We use CLAN for grossing-up. The weights are moduled on the basis of our Central Persons Register.
