If YES, what is the national definition of the programme orientation? Are PhD candidates who are employed and hold titles such as teaching assistant, teaching associate, teaching fellow, research assistant reported as academic staff in the UOE data collection (YES/NO)?
YES  General education programmes are designed to develop learners’ general knowledge, skills and competencies, as well as literacy and numeracy skills, often to prepare participants for more advanced education programmes at the same or a higher ISCED level and to lay the foundation for lifelong learning.

General education includes education programmes that are designed to prepare participants for entry into vocational education but do not prepare for employment in a particular occupation, trade or class of occupations or trades, nor lead directly to a labour market-relevant qualification.

Vocational education programmes are designed for learners to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies specific to a particular occupation, trade, or class of occupations or trades. Such programmes may have work-based components.

Successful completion of such programmes leads to labour market-relevant, vocational qualifications acknowledged as occupationally-oriented by the relevant national authorities and/or the labour market.

For the  UOE 2015 data collection tables, we can not provide data according to programm orientation (Academic or Professional) for ISCED 6 but in future we'll have data for them separately.

At ISCED 7 we proved data with  programm orientation -Academic or Professional. Academic programs involve advanced research and comprehensive knowledge in scientific subjects and fields of study - advanced academic studies with more complex and specialized content.   Typically duration is 1-2 years (full time or part time) and it is finalized with submittion of a thesis or dissertation. After completion, the students continue their education at ISCED 8 level.

Professional programs involve advanced research and comprehensive knowledge in scientific subjects and fields of study advanced professional studies with more complex and specialized content.   Typically duration is 1 years (full time or part time) and it is finalized with submittion of a thesis or dissertation. After completion, the students continue their education at the same level on master's study, after completion of that the students can continue their education at ISCED 8 level.
