Good health for all
The European Commission’s thematic programme, ‘Good health for all’ focuses on the critical lack of personnel in the healthcare systems of many developing countries. This human resources crisis significantly limits the ability of many poorer countries to provide sufficient, effective and equitable healthcare services.
The programme pays particular attention to the leading poverty-related diseases: HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, which severely undermine human progress in the developing world.
‘Good health for all’ also focuses on improving access to health-related public goods and addresses neglected and emerging diseases that could have an impact on the developing world. In addition, the programme also supports activities designed to encourage implementation of the so-called Cairo agenda on sexual and reproductive health rights, which was agreed at the International Conference on Population and Development, held in the Egyptian capital in 1994.
