Tackling the menace of landmines
As a result of past and present conflicts, many of the EU’s eastern neighbours are littered with unexploded ordinance which continues to represent a significant threat to people’s safety.
Anti-personnel landmines and other explosive remnants of war pose significant and indiscriminate risks to the population and are an obstacle to peaceful governance.
Europe is committed to providing its neighbours with help to tackle these dangers. The European Union Mine Action Strategy sets outs ways to eliminate anti-personnel landmines and other explosive military devices.
