A flexible approach to co-operation

The European Commission provides assistance in a range of sectors that have an influence on the economies and social cohesion of developing countries. Through its development aid programmes, it provides support to individual countries, geographic regions or to a number of countries from different continents that have shared needs.

For each African, Caribbean or Pacific Country (ACP), the reader can view a list of EU-funded programmes grouped by area or sector. Click on a country or region on this world map to learn more about it and the support it receives.

ACP regions bring together groups of neighbouring countries – for example West Africa and East Africa are dealt with as two separate regions. The Commission has the scope and flexibility to tailor support and funding to different regions. To find out more about the work of EU programmes in a specific region grouped by sector (for example health and education), visit  this site’s regional co-operation page.

Programmes for multiple ACP countries

The Commission funds a series of programmes that target many ACP countries at once. This is a great way to develop solutions to shared problems and needs. The Commission manages these activities from Brussels to maintain a coherent approach.
