Since 1990, Commission funding for ACP countries has risen steadily each year in real terms – and now it is spending more than ever before on aid for trade. Since 2001, more than €850 million of Commission funds have been used to help ACP regions to boost trade and integrate into the world economy.

Raising Awareness for Europe Day
Many EU-Delegations across the African continent used the occasion of Europe Day to organize events and activities to raise awareness and visibility for EU projects and to find out more about Europe as such. For example, In Addis Ababa, the EU-Delegation to the African Union hosted a reception in three different pavilions in the EU compound: one for Benin, which currently holds the AU presidency, one for Denmark, representing the EU presidency and one for the host country Ethiopia.

The European Commission announces a new programme to strengthen institutions in charge of trans-boundary water management in Africa to mark World Water Day
The European Commission has announced €3 million to help strengthen regional cooperation at the political, economic and stakeholder level in the water management sector. The new programme will favour sustainable management of water resources which are shared by more than one country, by using African expertise, and therefore enhance peace and security as well as help alleviate poverty in the region.

EU support to African veterinary services brings an end to Rinderpest, a devastating livestock disease
Almost 50 years of continued collaboration between the EU and the African Union Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) to eradicate Rinderpest is about to achieve its ultimate goal, with the official declaration of global freedom from Rinderpest foreseen for 2011. Building on such successful work, the Commission granted today EUR 30 million to further strengthen African Veterinary Services.

European Commission and civil society agree on priorities for the NGOs' role in Haiti's reconstruction
The European Commission organised a one-day conference for European and Haitian NGOs on the reconstruction of Haiti, on the 23 March in Brussels. The purpose of the meeting was to exchange views on the role that NGOs and civil society could play in addressing the priority reconstruction and development challenges currently facing Haiti. The outcomes of this event will be presented at the International Conference on the reconstruction of Haiti on 31 March 2010 in New York. Read the final report here.

EU funds water and sanitation projects in ACP countries to support progress towards the MDGs
9th February 2010. The European Commission presented the the second ACP-EU Water Facility, replenished with € 200 million under the 10th European Development Fund for the period 2009-2013.
