Boosting Revenue and Spending Efficiently - 4th African Fiscal Forum, Kampala

The 4th edition of the African Fiscal Forum was co-organised by the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission, and the Ugandan Ministry of Finances, on January 21-22 in Kampala, Uganda. It gave the opportunity to senior policy makers and civil servants from African Ministries of Finance to engage on fiscal challenges faced by the countries in the region around this year's theme of "Boosting Revenue and Spending Efficiently".

This is indeed exactly the spirit of the European Commission's strategy to foster development, captured by the motto and initiative "Collect more – Spend better".

It gives the opportunity to participants to share experiences, ideas and build relationships that can help build capacity to deal with fiscal challenges.

Participants were welcomed by Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, Deputy Director, Fiscal Affairs Department, IMF, Right Honorable Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Prime Minister, Uganda and Mr. Kristian Schmidt, EU Ambassador, Head of Delegation to Uganda.

The agenda provides a balance between presentation, interactive discussions of country experiences and concluding roundtable.

The fruitful discussions were the occasion for all to gather insights to help us design together fiscal policies that are conducive to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
