    Buy photos, paintings and sculptures and help the association EU Can Aid to provide access to safe and clean drinking water for 5 villages in Andhra Pradesh, India. The project was chosen by the trainees’ solidarity sub-committee.

    The exhibition will feature a selection of 21 photos, with each photo a snapshot of the trainees' journeys and work in developing countries.

The plot is based on the final months of Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of the Congo, whose tenure in office lasted two months until he was driven from office.

    Malaria: Blood, Sweat and Tears was conceived by Malaria Consortium and award-winning photographer Adam Nadel to highlight the complex relationship between malaria and poverty, and the need for international support to combat the disease. The images provide highly personal stories of the physical, emotional, economic and scientific spectrum of malaria, illustrating the impact of the disease on families, health workers, malaria researchers and local communities. The connection was developed to show the history of the disease, it's devastating effect, and the science that underpins a positive way forward.

    The last twenty years of the life of Albert Schweitzer, an Alsatian pioneer of humanitarian aid, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, viewed in the eyes of an African.  His incredible adventure, his life devoted to Africa and its people, but also the prejudices and racist acts which were widespread at that time (1945).

    Galleria, exhibition: "Les Dogons” (pictures) by the artist Massimo Allegro (Milan, 1963)

    Les Dogons” the fascinating people who live in Mali since the fourteenth century, at the foot of the Bandiagara cliff, also known as the “Land of the Dogons”, a place away from the "Civilization", landscapes of cliffs and sandy plateaux included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1989. The exhibition presents shots of everyday life of the mysterious people of peasant-warriors.

    The exhibition, opened until 19th April, includes 32 black and white pictures.

    The opening will be held on Tuesday 5th March at 5.00 pm, at the Galleria, Development and Cooperation DG- EuropeAid (Rue de la Loi 41, Brussels).

    In February, Lorenza Ngoy presents DR Congo "Land of Artists", with Stanley Mayiza Kibadidi - Isabelle Mbore (Gabon) Souleymane Diané (Senegal). ... The "Land of Artists" presents itself  with a nod to Our Africa, a unique and extraordinary people!! The richness of artists of  DR Congo is now associated with the designer Gabon and Senegal showing the diverse talents of this wonderful continent of Africa.     At the Galleria, exhibition: "Souffle insulaire" by Carlos Silva also known as "Litos" (paintings).

     To start the year, the Galleria welcomes an exhibition by the painter Carlos Silva also known as "Litos" entitled "Souffle insulaire." The exhibition, opened until 31 January, includes 14 paintings (acrylic on canvas, oil on canvas, mixed technique).  The opening will be held at 5.00 pm on Wednesday, January 16th at the Galleria, Development and Cooperation DG- EuropeAid (Rue de la Loi 41, Brussels).

    Native of Sao Tome and Principe, Litos Silva participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in his country, Portugal, where he currently resides, as well as in several countries in Africa and Europe.

    In the presence of Sofia Olins, the representative of the project co-financed by the European Union, the Rwandan partners Pudentienne Uzamukunda and Afisa Gasengayire and Denis Salord, Head of Unit "Regional Programmes Sub-Saharan Africa and ACP wide" at EuropeAid.

    This film tells the stories of people facing extreme discrimination. Desperate for change, chqrqcters become actors presenting their reality to a stunned audience. Filmed in four countries, crossing visually diverse landscapes, we see theatre performed in the streets of Botswana, Kenya, Rwanda and the Dominican Republic.

    Film screening on 22 November 2012: The Children's Republic

    This Thursday 22 November, 12:30-14:00, the Info Point will project "The children's Republic", a film by Flora Gomes starring Danny Glover and Hedviges Mamudo. Produced in France in 2010 with funds from the European Union (9° EDF - European Development Fund) and implemented by the ACP Secretariat.

    This film tells the story of a society of children who do not age. Disruptions in this unusual society start with the arrival of child soldiers from the outside. It has been suggested as an allegory on the possibility of African youth taking over the hope of building democracy on the continent without making a clean sweep of the past.

    On 27 June at 12:30 the Info Point will project "O Grande Kilapi", a movie produced in 2011 by Zézé Gamboa. The movie was made with the support from The European Union (9th EDF). The story tells us with an ironic manner the life of Joãozinho during the last years of Portuguese colonialism (1960-1974) in Angola and it is based on real events.  This movie wants to be a representation of colonial power but also of the attitudes of contemporary Angolan society.

    Exhibition about Uzbekistan at the Galleria from 02 May to 01 June

    In May at La Galleria you can discover Uzbekistan through a superb photo exhibition. "Uzbekistan: the pearl of the Great Silk Road" is a collection of Uzbek photography that shows personal histories of Uzbek people and history of the country. This photo exhibition allows to see with one’s own eyes the national culture, spiritual world and social life of Uzbekistan and to learn about this old but young country.

    People outside the European Commission can come and see the works only during the Opening, scheduled on Thursday, May 10 at La Galleria at 5 pm, in DG EuropeAid, rue de la Loi 41 at Brussels.

    On 25 April at 12:30 the Info Point will project "Heremakono, en attendant le Bonheur", a movie produced in 2002 by Abderrahmane Sissako and made with the support from The European Union (8th EDF). The story is set in Mauritania and tell us about a child who dreams Europe and about his integration difficulties. Another important element is the sea, which represents the freedom and an obstacle to this freedom.

    "Heremakono, en attendant le Bonheur" won different awards, like the prize by International Critique in Cannes 2002.

    16 April 2012: EU High level summit on "Sustainable Energy for all"

    Ahead of the Rio+20 summit, the European Union and the Danish Presidency of the EU Council will be hosting a high-level Summit on 16 April to demonstrate their commitment to access to modern energy for the world's most vulnerable people.

    The Summit will be opened by EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
    The event will take place at the Charlemagne Building in Brussels (Rue de la Loi 170) on 16 April, from 9.30am - 6.00pm.

    In April the Galleria, located in DG Development and Cooperation - EuropeAid (Rue de la Loi 41 in Brussels) welcomes the paintings of Marta Rocío Benítez, artist from Paraguay. Her exhibition "Naturaleza y Color" represents a praise of the nature with creativity and bright colours. For the artist, painting the nature becomes a way to raise awareness on sustainable development.

    The public can come and see the works only during the Opening, scheduled on Wednesday, April 18 from 5pm.

    This vernissage is organized in collaboration with the Mission of Paraguay to the European Union.

    The story plays in legendary Kwetu, a typical 70’s African military dictatorship. Muntu and his pal Sunday, two rather dreamy small-time crooks, have been released from jail as part of the celebrations of the President’s birthday. On the same day, Muntu falls in love with the pretty daughter of a preacher. Afraid of losing the woman of his dreams, he refrains from mentioning his immediate past and... allows her to believe that he owns a profitable market stall. His honest attempts to turn this lie into reality fail due to the ubiquitous local corruption. As "Captain of Nakara", wearing a stolen military uniform, Muntu manages to succeed in defending his rights, his happiness - and ends up elected as Kwetu's president!

    Millenium International Documentary Film Festival - Brussels, 8-14 June

    The third edition of the Millenium International Documentary Film Festival, an independent initiative supported by the United Nations, will kick-off in Brussels on 8 June and will culminate with the award-ceremony on 14 June at the rhythm of Baaba Mal’s music. The week-long Festival will see the projection of more than 50 movies from all over the world dealing with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

    A special event “Making MDGs a reality: the power of documentary films in development” will take place at the European Parliament, room ASP3E2, on June 15 from 6.30 p.m. to 8.15 p.m.  See the programme of this event.

    The Info Point will be screening the documentary "Mame Diarra & Co"  on the 2nd of May, at 12.30.

    This 52 min documentary (In original version with French subtitles) is part of the "Lumières d'Afrique" collection, produced by the Ardèche Images Production society.

    Each film in this collection, funded by the European Union and implemented by the ACP Secretariat, has a particuliar focus on African Society.

    In "Mame Diarra & Co" we follow the journey of young street girls who have decided to go to school. Armed only with their strength of will, they want to change their lives and escape the destiny that their parents have mapped out for them, of being guides for their blind grandmother. Pape Tall, a social worker and poet, tries to assist them in this difficult challenge.

    This event is organized by the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs and will be held on 19,20 and 21 July in Paris. It will bring together more than 2000 professionals and stakeholders interested in external action, cooperation, humanitarian aid, working mainly in France, in the fields of culture, economy, development, research and education. However, all actors involved in international cooperation are invited to this French event. For the first time, EuropeAid has accepted the invitation and will actively take part in this event with a stand under the title " The European Union in the world". It has also been confirmed the participation of EuropeAid's Head of Unit for "Aid effectiveness and relations with bilateral donors", M.Luc Bagur, in the roundtable: " Which are the possible synergies between European assistance and bilateral assistance? "

    Shanghai Expo 2010: European External Relations Days on 10 - 12 May 2010This year, the European Union takes part for the first time in a Universal Exhibition being held outside Europe – the Shanghai World Expo 2010. 70 million visitors are expected.

    EuropeAid, together with DG Development and DG External Relations will kick off with a three day forum entitled "EU in the world". The forum will be a platform to exchange and explore key ideas that will shape our common future.     In September 2010, world leaders will meet in New York to agree on ways to speed up efforts and keep their promises to reduce worldwide poverty by half. The European Union, which  is committed to double its aid to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, will be present. 

    The "8 goals against poverty worldwide" stand will focus on the 8 Millennium Development Goals.

    What will I find?

    An educational exhibition on MDGs (videos, interactive screens) showing the European actions and a quiz to raise public awareness amongst visitors on the MGDs
