The EU has a close development partnership with Africa and, through its cooperation, supports many capacity building activities.

Since 1992, the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) supported numerous policy units and think tanks which conduct research to inform the policy making process at country and sub-regional levels.  17 policy institutes supported by the ACBF are ranked among the Top 50 think tanks in Sub-Saharan Africa.
