European Semester 2016

The 2016 European Semester kicked off in November 2015 with the Annual Growth Survey, which confirmed the Commission's jobs and growth strategy based on three pillars: re-launching investment, pursuing structural reforms to modernise our economies and responsible fiscal policies. In order to better integrate the euro area and national dimensions of the EU economic governance, the 2016 Annual Growth Survey was accompanied by a set of recommendations for the euro area .

In February 2016, the Commission published a series of Country Reports for each Member State*, analysing Member States' economic and social policies. The main messages of the Country Reports are summarised in a Communication pdf - 590 KB [590 KB] български (bg) čeština (cs) dansk (da) Deutsch (de) eesti keel (et) ελληνικά (el) español (es) français (fr) hrvatski (hr) italiano (it) latviešu valoda (lv) lietuvių kalba (lt) magyar (hu) Malti (mt) Nederlands (nl) polski (pl) português (pt) română (ro) slovenčina (sk) slovenščina (sl) suomi (fi) svenska (sv) . For 18 Member States identified in November 2015, the Country Reports include in-depth reviews examining the existence and nature of possible macroeconomic imbalances.

In May 2016, based on the analysis presented in the Country Reports and the dialogue held with Member States, the Commission will present country-specific recommendations.
As the part of the European Semester, the Commission also monitors the compliance with the Stability and Growth Pact.
