European Semester 2015

The 2015 European Semester kicked off last November with the Annual Growth Survey, which outlined the new Commission's three-pillar jobs and growth strategy: boosting investment, accelerating structural reforms and pursuing responsible, growth-friendly fiscal consolidation. Building on these priorities, the Commission published a series of country reports in February, analysing Member States' economic policies, which are summarised in a Communication . The reports include in-depth reviews of the 16 countries identified in November as experiencing macroeconomic imbalances.

The Commission has also published reports on Member States facing excessive deficits. Find out more about the excessive deficit procedure.

Next steps

In March, the Commission will meet with Member States to discuss the country reports. By mid-April, Member States are expected to present plans to boost jobs and growth (National Reform Programmes) and plans for sound public finances (Stability/Convergence Programmes). Taking all this into account, the Commission will present a new set of country-specific recommendations in May.
