The Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) is Europe’s largest general science meeting and is held in a leading Europe city every two years. ESOF 2012 will be hosted in Dublin, Ireland from July 11th-15th , 2012.  ESOF is an interdisciplinary, pan-European meeting, which showcases the latest advances in science and technology; promotes a dialogue on the role of science and technology in society and public policy; and stimulates and provokes public interest, excitement and debate about science and technology.

Speakers will include: Mary Robinson (former president of Ireland and President of the Foundation for Climate Justice); Maire Geoghegan Quinn (European Commissioner for Research and Innovation); Jules Hoffnman (Nobel Laureate 2011); Craig Venter (J. Craig Venter Institute); Helga Nowotny (President of the European Research Council) and Bob Geldof (Human rights campaigner and former Boomtown Rat!).

ESOF 2012 will present:

• A Science program of seminars, workshops and debates on the latest science and technology.
• A Media programme to promote science communication.
• A Careers programme for young researchers.
• A Science-2-Business programme to link basic research with industrial applications.
• An Exhibition to showcase the best of European public and private research.
• A Science in the City program to engage with the general public.
• A Social program to ensure that delegate experience is socially, culturally and intellectually invigorating.

The event is unique in the diversity of delegates who attend. It attracts top researchers from the natural sciences and the social sciences; business leaders; senior EU and government officials; and international scientific media. They come to discuss the best of European science and to address all of the current major global scientific challenges, including Energy, Climate Change, Food and Health.

Participants come to learn at first-hand of the latest advances in science and technology; to participate in debates on important, contemporary issues for science and society; to contribute to discussions on European policy; to engage with and question the leading international researchers in their fields and to meet old friends and make some new ones. ESOF2012 will attract researchers from across Europe and beyond, thus providing fantastic networking opportunities.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science is a nonprofit professional society dedicated to the advancement of scientific and technological excellence across all disciplines, and to the public's understanding of science and technology. AAAS is among the oldest scientific societies in America, having been founded in Philadelphia in 1848. The AAAS Annual Meeting offers a unique, exciting, interdisciplinary blend of more than 150 symposia, plenary and topical lectures, specialized seminars, poster presentations, and Exhibit Hall. The next annual conference will be held in Vancouver, Canada, on 16-20 February 2011.

As a part of the conference's Career Development track, the European Research Council will host a workshop titled " Funding Opportunities in Europe for Creative Minds from Anywhere in the World" on Friday, February 17, 2012, at 2:30 PM-3:30 PM Room 111-112 (VCC West Building)
This workshop for early-career researchers will explain the European Research Council (ERC) grants and EURAXESS Researchers in Motion Initiative for European researchers abroad, and provide answers to practical questions such as: How can the ERC and EURAXESS support research careers? What are their main features of the ERC funding schemes? What are the selection criteria and how long is the selection process? How does the application process work? How many researchers are funded each year? What are the chances of success? What services are offered by EURAXESS? Where to find information on the EURAXESS portal? In addition, an ERC Starting Grantee will be present to share her experience with this funding initiative and will answer questions. In a series of topical lectures, Prof. Donald B. Dingwell, ERC's Secretary General,  will discuss "Explosive Volcanism in the Earth System" on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at 12:00 PM-12:45 PM, Room 202-204 (VCC West Building)
Dr. Dingwell is a world-renowned volcanologist who recently became the secretary general of the European Research Council. His term expires at the end of 2013. He has been granted partial leave of absence from his duties as chair of mineralogy and petrology and director of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München. Dr. Dingwells' principal research interest is the physico-chemical description of molten rocks and their impact on volcanic systems. He also has been highly active in the proliferation and support of science and science awareness within and beyond national and international societies. He holds dual German and Canadian citizenship and has taught at all university levels, in five Universities, three countries, and two languages. For its 19th International Conference of Europeanists, the Council for European Studies (CES) is calling for proposals that reflect upon and explore the variety of diversities within Europe: political, administrative, legal, geographic, economic, social, cultural, intellectual, and identitarian.  CES welcomes proposals for panels, roundtables, book discussions and individual papers on the study of Europe broadly defined and encourages submissions in the widest range of disciplines and with configurations that transcend disciplinary, national and generational boundaries. Proposals may be submitted between August 15, 2011 and October 1, 2011.  Participants will be notified of the Committee’s decisions by December 10, 2011.
