The Science, Technology and Environment section, Delegation of the EU to China, in collaboration with EURAXESS Links China, would like to bring together Europeans involved in research and innovation cooperation with China on urbanization-related issues.

The aim is to learn about each other’s activities, inform the participants about the forthcoming EU-China Partnership on Urbanization (to be endorsed during the upcoming EU-China Summit) and to discuss how this might impact their activities and how to feed the research component of the Partnership.

To this aim, a one-morning meeting will be organized at the EU Delegation in Beijing on Tuesday morning, February 21. A more detailed agenda of the meeting will be sent early February.

The theme of 'urbanisation' covers the following topics:
- Energy efficiency, low carbon development, air quality;
-    Transport, Mobility;
-    Water and waste management;
-    Urban planning, Integrated urban-rural policy planning.

This afternoon meeting aims to exchange views on the practicalities of how to increase in volume and improve in quality the mobility of EU researchers to China.

After a brief introduction, the meeting will be divided into three sessions of one hour each, addressing the different stages and related issues of mobility of EU Researchers between Europe and China. Discussions will be led by key-stakeholders and open to all participants. Download the draft agenda.

EU researchers, those in charge of mobility funding programmes, etc. are all invited to attend and share experiences and ideas.

This event will also mark the 2nd anniversary of the launch of EURAXESS Links China providing a good opportunity to share a convivial moment in the company of HE Markus Ederer, EU Ambassador to China, and a buffet dinner offered by the EU Delegation to China.

The China Links Thematic Meeting on Bio-resources conversion into energy/materials and CO2 valorisation is organized by the EU Delegation Science, Technology and Environment section in collaboration with EURAXESS Links China, the environmental chemistry competitiveness cluster Axelera, University of Fudan and University of Lyon.

The meeting will bring together European and Chinese representatives of research institutions and companies active in the fields of bio-resources conversion and CO2 valorisation in order to discuss ongoing projects, market trends and opportunities for collaborations.

Major labs and companies of the sector have already registered for this event. The event will take place on Monday, March 28, on the campus of Fudan University. Meetings and visits of labs in Shanghai will be facilitated the following day (March 29).

The ST&Envt section of the EU Delegation to China and EURAXESS Links China jointly organize China Links Events in order to create links among European researchers themselves, between these researchers and the EU, between these researchers and Chinese researchers.

In this framework, a China Links Thematic Meeting will be held on the following topic: "Innovation in Chinese enterprises: Promoting EU-China exchanges and joint research" in Beijing (office of the EU Delegation) on Monday morning, November 15 (2010).

This meeting will bring together European and Chinese research institutions and researchers working on this important topic, as well as other stakeholders from public and private sectors.

The goal of this meeting is to take stock of the existing ongoing research and exchanges on the theme 'innovation in Chinese enterprises' and to explore ways to develop further EU-China cooperation in this field.

The European Union delegation S&T section and EURAXESS Links China, in partnership with the Innovation Center Denmark in Shanghai, will organize a workshop on “Intellectual Property in EU-China research cooperation” to be held on June 17.

As international research cooperation between China and Europe is growing while China’s IP legal framework and its implementation are undergoing rapid changes and developments, this workshop will be a timely opportunity for European researchers to practically discuss with legal specialists and experienced fellow researchers, IP issues they are confronted with when working in China.

Following the results of the survey conducted to assess the relevance of such a workshop to the European researchers community in China and given the broad scope of the topic of IP within research cooperation, it has been decided to focus this workshop on the setting up of the IP agreement between the Chinese and European research partners.

Based on the outcomes of this workshop, follow-ups focusing more on implementation of the agreements could be envisaged.

In parallel to the “EU-China S&T Week” to be held at the EU pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo from June 15 to June 18 (see article under “EU Announcements” section), the whole EURAXESS Links team of the European Commission will hold two information sessions to promote and inform about the European Research Area and opportunities for international mobility of researchers and cooperation.

The first session will be held on June 16 afternoon at the Shanghai Science Hall, as part of the 3rd STF China Networking Event (bringing together the 59 young European researchers of the 2009 and 2010 intakes of the STF China mobility programme and representatives of the Chinese research community).

The second session will be hosted by Fudan University on June 18 afternoon from 3pm to 5pm.

EURAXESS Links China organizes “sectorial meetings” bringing together European researchers working in the same field in China for them to get to know each other, to learn about their ongoing activities and to discuss issues of common interest.

The first sectorial meeting will be organized in the field of Law on Friday morning, April 30. All European researchers, projects managers in the field of law or legal practitioners interested in legal research in China are warmly invited to attend this meeting.

Professor Ninon Colneric, co-dean of the China-EU School of Law, and visiting scholar in Qinghua School of Law Paolo Farah, will each give a presentation during the meeting.

A “Roundtable on the EU's Information and Communications Technologies Framework Programme Opportunities for Researchers in Hong Kong & Macao” jointly organized by the Office of the European Union to Hong Kong & Macao and Hong Kong Science and the Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) will be held on March 24 from 3:30 to 5:00 pm in Hong Konmg Science Park Convention Hall.  A presentation of EU-China research cooperation latest trends and of EURAXESS Links China is included in the program of this roundtable.

During this afternoon event hosted within the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Sun Yat Sen University School of Business, Mr Georges Papageorgiou, Minister Counselor for Science and Technology, EU delegation to China, will present the European Framework Programme for Research and Development (2007-2013) and the opportunities offered for international cooperation.

His presentation will be followed by an introduction of the ‘EURAXESS Links China’ researchers network by Mr Jacques de Soyres, information officer for this network.

Researchers of the Guangdong area are cordially invited to attend this event which could be a good opportunity to meet fellow researchers interested in EU-China cooperation!

EURAXESS Links is a new network, sponsored by Directorate General for Research of the European Commission, aiming to be an efficient information and networking tool for European researchers in China. In particular EURAXESS Links will have a dedicated website providing practical information on scientific news, events and funding opportunities, as well as a lively platform where to share experiences and exchange views on issues of interest.

EURAXESS Links China will be officially launched on Thursday, December 10, from 16.30 to 18.00 in the 798 Art zone, Beijing. The Euraxess launch event will be followed by a dinner  for all the participants.
