Marie Curie Actions funded job vacancy Postdoc or Engineer in Semantic Web

The candidate will participate in an outstanding web science and data science project on Question Answering: WDAqua. The other partners of the project are University of Bonn (leader), Fraunhofer, University of Southampton, University of Athens, Open Data Institute.

The position will focus on Semantic web techniques and Linked Data, and more specifically on semantic relatedness.

Description

The candidate will participate in an outstanding web science and data science project on Question Answering: WDAqua. The partners of the project are University of Bonn (leader), Fraunhofer, University of Southampton, University of Athens, Open Data Institute.

The position will focus on Semantic web techniques and Linked Data, and more specifically on semantic relatedness.

We are looking for a good metric to calculate the distance between items. We have proposed an innovative approach for such metrics, based on Semantic Web techniques and on matrix calculations. You will have to understand the approach, and then to improve, design and implement it. It should ultimately result in a new type of distance editor. If successful, the result will be presented in an international conference and published.

What we search? A Postdoc or Engineer that:
•is open to learn new technologies,
•works independently,
•likes working on algorithms,
•likes programming.

What we expect? To complete the research project the following skills will be neede (It is good if you already have experience in some of these domains. We will help you to learn the one you miss):
•Use Semantic Technologies like RDF/RDFS
•Work with large sparse Matrices
•Program in Java using Maven, Ruby on rails and Php
•Use GitHub as a versioning tool
•Do computations in Octave

Context of work: You will stay in Saint Etienne, a mid-size city of France. You will belong to the team Connected Intelligence of the Laboratory Hubert Curien. You will work in a very international atmosphere. The working language will be mostly English (French is not required but can be used). The position is offered for 6 to12 months. The monthly salary will depend on your experience. You will be helped to settle down in excellent conditions if you come from abroad.
