Associate Professor Urban Process Modelling
The Department of the Built Environment of Eindhoven University of Technology offers education in a wide range of specializations in the field of architecture, building and planning. The emphasis is placed on the integration of design, science and technology. Graduates find their way into various professional groups, including architectural design, urban design and planning, building physics, structural design, and real estate management. In addition the department is also a research institute, where high-quality research related to building is carried out in various laboratories.Position within DDSS research programIncreasing complexity of city infrastructures calls for new research and education in the field of urban management. Urban process modelling is gaining more importance is assessing urban complexity. In the 3TU Construction Management and Engineering (CME) Master program and in de Design and Decision Support Systems (DDSS) research program urban process modelling is a major topic. Teaching and researching urban process modelling requires knowledge in the field of operations management, information management, multi-agents systems and process optimization. New knowledge is developed and implemented in a technological framework in the context of urban management. The position resides within the Design Systems chair hold by prof. B. de Vries, which in turn is embedded in the Urban Science and Systems unit.TasksResearchThe associate professor guides PhD's with subjects related to urban process modelling. He/she writes research proposals to initiate new research projects and to extract external funding. Research results are published in international scientific journals. In case of funded research, he/she not only scientifically contributes to the project, but can also take responsibility for the management of the project. The research output is presented at international conferences and professional meetings. A leading role is foreseen in the 3TU.CME Management Team and in extending the success of the DDSS research program. To maintain and in time expand to leading position of the DDSS research program, the associate professor is member of the scientific board of international research foundations and academic journals.EducationThe associate professor is the coordinator of the CME Master's program. He/she teaches classes on process modeling, and urban simulation. In the studios, students are guided on subjects related to urban management, urban modelling, complex networks, optimization and Multi-Agent-Systems. Process modelling classes are provided for the Post-Master's program Smart Energy Buildings & Cities (SEBC).ManagementThe associate professor replaces the professor in his management tasks whenever necessary. In time he/she is expected to participate in department committees. The DDSS Research program and the 3TU.CME Master's program require also management tas
