Research Associate

This is a part time (4 hours per week) temporary (two months) research associate post under the supervision of Dr María del Carmen González Menéndez, in the Department of Sociology of the University of Oviedo within the ambit of the FP7-funded STYLE project to work on the elaboration of the country reports for Spain pertaining to youth entrepreneurship, policy transfer and innovation, and comparative policy performance assessment.

Description

The research associate will work, under the supervision of Dr María del Carmen González Menéndez, in the Department of Sociology of the University of Oviedo within the ambit of the STYLE (Strategic Transitions for Youth Labour in Europe) project on the elaboration of the country reports for Spain pertaining to youth entrepreneurship, policy transfer and innovation, and comparative policy performance assessment.

The research associate will mainly be responsible for the timely writing, in English, of the country reports for Spain in the project in connection with deliverables, which are a commitment to the European Commission. In order to do this, the job will involve the collection of secondary data in Spanish, and some analysis of micro-level data from EU and Spanish databases. The successful candidate may also participate in qualitative fieldwork outside the university, namely interviews with relevant policy makers, implementers and social actors.

The successful candidate should hold a PhD or to have submitted a PhD thesis for examination in Sociology. She/he will have specific knowledge of at least two of the following in the Spanish context: minimum wage, VET, active labour market policies, labour contracts, welfare benefits and labour taxation, policy innovation and transfer, youth entrepreneurship. Evidence of cross-national comparative quantitative research skills in labour market analysis, and of being able to write academic reports in English autonomously are required.

- Ability to independently analyse said and similar databases’ micro-level data for several countries using SPSS
- Doctoral level research or equivalent in the subject area and specific knowledge of at least two of the following in the Spanish context: minimum wage, VET, active labour market policies, labour contracts, welfare benefits and labour taxation, policy innovation and transfer, youth entrepreneurship
- Evidence of cross-national comparative quantitative research skills in labour market analysis
