The Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) is the first research program of the Singapore ETH Centre for Global Environmental Sustainability (SEC), a joint effort between ETH Zurich and the Singapore National Research Foundation (NRF). Within this context the Chair of Professor Fabio Gramazio and Professor Matthias Kohler, for Architecture and Digital Fabrication, investigates in the design of robotic fabricated high rise buildings. They emphasize robotic construction processes, explore its influence on the design process and on the architectural articulation of high rises. Besides the two professors the team currently consists of two senior researchers and two PhD candidates. The integration of a Design Research Studio with 12 ETH Master Students forms an important part of the overall agenda.

You will investigate sophisticated sensing/scanning and control strategies for an on-site robotic tiling process and/or build on the optimization of the current setup of the scanning mechanism. Therefore, you will be directly responsible of optimizing the scanning algorithms for an on-site robotic tiling task with machinery and equipment that is operating in unknown environments such as the construction site. The responsibilities will additionally be linked to the design and building of the electronic setup of the robot end effector.
