Description

Cutaneous melanoma is a tumour that develops in the pigment-producing cells of the skin, called melanocytes. It is the leading cause of death from skin disease and poor patient prognosis is related to its propensity to metastasise. The poor survival of melanoma patients is due in part to a shortage of prognostic biomarkers. In collaboration with Dr Vicky Sherwood (https://www.uea.ac.uk/pharmacy/people/profile/v-sherwood) we have recently identified a candidate biomarker for metastatic melanoma using phage display. In this project you will use a range of techniques to characterise the biological function of this marker using melanoma cell models and patient tissue samples. The project will involve collaboration with clinicians from the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital and will offer the candidate the opportunity to work in a dynamic and multi-disciplinary research group. Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Chris Morris (christopher.j.morris@uea.ac.uk)
