Our client is a biotechnology company active in discovery and development of small molecule therapies. Their research activities across Europe are successful thanks to their highly motivated staff, their unique technology base and the strong financial position. Through risk sharing alliances, they have been able to build up a pipeline of more than 20 programs. Function details: The “Therapeutic Area Lead Autoimmune Diseases” will be responsible for leading a set of projects in the autoimmune portfolio from target discovery stage up to pre-clinical candidate delivery. Innovation and in-depth scientific insights are expected to be key drivers in the approach taken by the Leader for selecting targets and progressing projects to success through the design of critical testing cascades. The Lead will be operating internally in a matrix-type environment, and will take a central position in coordinating the activities of several departments ranging from in vitro through in vivo pharmacology. The application of concepts that increase probability of success, such as e.g. biomarkers and other translational activities, will be strongly encouraged.

Education and qualifications:
PhD with at least 6+ years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
Strong scientific expertise in inflammation and autoimmunity is required. Scientific creativity
and critical thinking should characterize the scientific approach of the candidate.
Good knowledge of in vitro and in vivo pharmacology.
Knowledge of the drug discovery process, supported by a demonstrated track record on the
management of drug disco very projects in the area.
Ability to build a synthetic view on literature in the field.
A clear understanding of the competitive landscape in the area.
Experience in project management with excellent organizational and planning skills.
Experience working in a matrix type environment represents an advantage. Languages:
English, both oral and written.
Dutch and/or French is an advantage.
Mobility/travel: International traveling is required.

Job specificities:
Permanent employment.
Location: France (near Paris); Belgium (Flanders) is also possible.
