VERTIGO (Volcanic ash: fiEld, expeRimenTal and numerIcal investiGations of prOcesses during its lifecycle) is a Marie Curie Initial Training Network. Its aim is research and training on all aspects of physico-chemical processes during the lifecycle of volcanic ash: from formation in a volcano, through changes during the dispersal in the atmosphere to the impacts on life and society. The 4-year project starts on January 1, 2014. The network is coordinated by the Mineralogy Section of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich (LMU), Germany.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. At the time of recruitment by the host organisation, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account.

2. Early-Stage Researchers must (at the time of recruitment by the host organisation) be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not yet have a doctoral degree. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is envisaged.

3. Good written and oral knowledge of English BEFORE starting the contract (TOEFL test or equivalent required)
