FMI International PhD Program
The FMI International PhD Program provides advanced, interdisciplinary training for graduate students in the fields of in epigenetics, neurobiology and mechanisms of cancer.
Applications are invited for fully funded PhD student fellowships at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI). The FMI is an international biomedical research institute affiliated with the University of Basel and with the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research. Our research focuses on epigenetics, mechanisms of cancer and neurobiology. We employ state-of -the-art technologies to explore basic mechanisms of cells and organisms in health and disease.
The FMI International PhD Program has approximately 100 graduate students from more than 25 countries. Students admitted to the program receive theoretical and practical training, and conduct a research project under the supervision of an FMI group leader. FMI students learn highly advanced techniques from specialists and are introduced into experimental analysis at multiple levels of biological organization.
The FMI provides financial support to graduate students in accordance with the scale of the Swiss National Science Foundation. Income is generous relative to international standards for PhD students. A course of study at the FMI leading to a PhD degree of the University of Basel typically lasts 4 years. Situated in Basel, Switzerland, the FMI offers an outstanding scientific environment in the center of Europe.
