Marie Curie Actions funded job vacancy Experienced Researcher (MULTI-POS): Location techniques, ecosystem & business model for 2020 urban mobility

  !   Offer by Large Company/SME

Please note that the job is no longer active!

You will play a key role in defining how future urban mobility will be facilitated by positioning technologies.

An experienced researcher, you are looking to gain experience from working within a private international company.

PTOLEMUS Consulting Group is a small but fast growing strategy consulting firm specialised in location-based services and telematics. It is recognised in the promising connected vehicle domain. As such, it is interviewed or mentioned by publications such as The Economist, The Wall Street Journal and ITS International.

MULTI-POS is a Marie Curie ITN funded by the European Commission that will address challenging research topics in the field of wireless geo-location and will offer a comprehensive multi-dimensional and cross-boundary training to 15 selected researchers from all over the world.

See also www.multi-pos.eu

Description

You will work on 3 types of assignments: internal research projects, participate to client assignments and your MULTI-POS research, that will have the highest priority.

The objectives of your MULTI-POS research, which will last 22 months, will consist in:
1. Developing a gap analysis between positioning requirements for mobility in 2020 cities and what current commercially available wireless technologies provide;
2. Understanding how identified and potential future positioning technologies can bridge this gap (own or combined);
3. Defining the conditions for these technologies to successfully develop new ecosystems of services, in terms of value chain & business models.

This research will focus on 4 domains, namely crisis & emergency management, road charging, retail (indoor) location and multimodal transportation.

You will call on numerous sources including a review of literature, interviews with technology and application companies along with subject-matter experts in the 4 domains, the use of PTOLEMUS’ existing intellectual capital, a review of applicable patents and research programmes globally, a 3.5-month secondment at VU Amsterdam, The Netherlands on crisis management and a 2-month secondment at GEODAN, Amsterdam, The Netherlands to perform experimental platform testing; and finally exchanges with MULTI-POS partners.

You will first establish a diagnostic of current, state-of-the-art technologies and related gaps in the domain. You will then define the needs of urban mobility in the 4 domains in 2020 and project what positioning technologies will be able to achieve at that time. Finally, you will define how the implied gap can be matched by new business models, ecosystems, technology combinations or new technologies.

You will work in PTOLEMUS offices in Brussels and be supervised by PTOLEMUS’ Managing Director, based in the same office, and its Research Director, based in London. You will benefit from both formal training on key consulting skills and on-the-job training, notably by participating to other PTOLEMUS research or client projects.

PTOLEMUS is located at Rue Cervantes 15 in Brussels, Belgium, within 20 minutes of the city centre thanks to 3 tramway lines.
