This position is part of the Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) “IT-LIVER: Strategy to Inhibit TGF-β in Liver Disease”.
The Training Network’s mission is to provide a multidisciplinary and intersectorial Research Training Programme for talented young researchers, so as to prepare them for leading roles in Chronic Liver Disease (CLD) research and drug discovery in European industry and academia.
We are looking to recruit a young, post-doctoral researcher for work on: Development and application of bioinformatic analysis methods for identification of biomarkers to assess the efficacy of TGF-β RI inhibitors in vivo. Molecular biology skills (experience in qRT-PCR and MSP-PCR) are an advantage.
A post-doctoral researcher with experience in processing of next-generation-sequencing (NGS) data and data mining is required. The successful candidate will test a set of available bioinformatic analysis methods, such as Gene Ontology mapping, pathway mapping (KEGG, BioCarta, Reactome) and respective enrichment (GSEA, iGA) as well as network analyses (mapping transcripts on PPI networks and identifying hubs) for their suitability to identify biomarkers for a simple test to assess the efficacy of inhibitors of the TGF-beta pathway in vivo, based on data generated within the project and on other cancer data sets available at GenXPro. The results of such analyses need to be evaluated for their biological and medical plausibility by hand in order to identify the best suited and most reliable method. NGS data types will include high-resolution transcriptome, smallRNAome, and epigenome (C-Methylation) data from stratified patient samples from different liver pathologies. During his/her work, the candidate will gain new insights on regulatory mechanisms including small RNAs and c-methylation and biological pathways characterizing hepatic cancers for the definition of novel biomarkers to assess the efficacy of inhibitors of the TGF-beta pathway . It is expected that the candidate will publish these data after proof for patentable results in best suited peer-reviewed journals and present the work on conferences. The candidate will closely interact with the groups of Dr. S. Leporatti (CNR-Nano, Lecce, Italy) and Prof. G. Giannelli (University of Bari, Italy).
