Microfluidic technology of monodisperse polymerized vesicle production, developing stress sensor: calibration of stresses in elongation flow and measurements in random flow by using polymerized vesicles and developing vesicle tracking tensometry to measure field of elastic stresses in flows
PostDoc position in the department of Department of Physics of Complex Systems at Weizmann institute of Science in the group of Victor Steinberg for 2 years. A polymerized vesicle is a vesicle with a bilayer membrane that includes polymers attached to lipid molecules. These polymers can be polymerized to create a polymerized elastic monolayer inside the lipid membrane. First, the dynamics of such object is interesting by its own since it can differ from both vesicle and capsule dynamics. But it is mostly important from the application point of view, since I consider it as a possible candidate for stress sensor in a flow. The latter does not exist at the moment but crucial for measurements of elastic stresses in elastic turbulence and then in turbulent drag reduction. Besides it can be used as a temperature and pH probe in the flow. We have first preliminary results on technology of preparation and characterization of such vesicles. We also would like to work on technology of preparation of monodisperse polymerized vesicles in a micro-fluidic channel in order to develop vesicle tracking tensometry.
