The tyrosine kinase PYK2 and its role in cancer progression and metastasis

Phd Research position in the department of Department of Molecular Cell Biology at Weizmann institute of Science in the group of Sima Lev for 4.5 years. PYK2 is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase, which is activated in response to diverse extracellular stimuli including growth factors, hormones, neuropeptides and extracellular matrix proteins. We isolated this kinase more then 10 years ago and demonstrated its critical role in propagating mitogenic signals. Since then, PYK2 was found to play a key role in cell migration, invasion and metastasis, and it is currently target for cancer therapy. The major goal of our studies is to understand, at the molecular level, how PYK2 regulates cell growth, proliferation and migration, and thereby facilitating cancer progression, invasion and metastasis. We use multidisciplinary experimental approaches applying the most advanced biochemical, molecular biology, and cell biology techniques.
