This research proposal developed under FAPESP/NERC project "Marine ferromanganese deposits - a major resource of E-tech elements (MarineE-tech)" has the aim to address socio-economic issues of mining ferromanganese deposits located in the Brazilian outer continental shelf at 40°W and 30°S, in the Rio Grande Rise (RGR).
The position requires academic degree plus PhD/doctoral degree in relevant field (marine biology, benthic ecology, deep-sea oceanography, marine biogeochemistry), proven track record of high-level publications, familiarity with analytical and mathematical methodologies, fluency in English, written and oral, strong communication skills, ability to conduct research independently and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
The postdoctoral researcher will need to perform literature studies and compile extant knowledge into reports and/or review article(s), collaborate closely with scientists of different disciplines, take part in oceanic cruises and organise sampling campaigns, design and perform measurement schemes on both water column and bulk sediment parameters, such as multibeam sonar and meio/macrobenthos, use multi-variate statistical approaches to characterise and map functional biodiversity, analyse the results of the conducted research, write up the results in the form of high-quality reports and scientific publications and disseminate information about the project and its findings to both scientific and policy-making audiences, via oral presentations at scientific conferences and report meetings.
This is a full time position working 40 hours per week and is fixed term for 24 months, with a possibility for 12 + 12 months extensions. The fellowship value is R$ 6.143,40.
