Fellowship posted by Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (27/02/2016 03.17)

The origins of the notion of aesthetic Mind in the twentieth century thought, with particular reference to the figures of Aby Warburg, Walter Benjamin and Paul Valéry (Published on the Albo Ufficiale with n. 1203))

Please note that the job is no longer active!

The theoretical framework of the research is offered by the origin, between the end of the nineteenth and the first half of the twentieth century, of the notion of aesthetic mind that develops in contact with the new ideas coming from the biology, the psychology and the physics of that time. It will be necessary to outline in particular how some classical concepts of the vocabulary of aesthetics, such as symbol, perception, form, transform themselves and to consider, finally, the influence that they have on the contemporary debate on the idea of aesthetic mind. The research will have to be articulated in three main directions: 1) The prelude of a naturalization of aesthetics in Aby Warburg and in his circle; 2) The research on the symbolic and the allegoric character of the work of art that Benjamin did between the 10s and the 30s; 3) The philosophy of Self and the theory of Mind that was developed in the Cahiers by Paul Valéry.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
